Hello and I'd like to let everyone know I'm off on an adventure to South Africa on Saturday. I've been working with a charity based there, called the Children's Radio Foundation
, which works with young people in half a dozen countries in Africa to give them journalistic and broadcasting skills, and a voice to tell their stories. I'm going for 11 days to visit some of the places where the CRF is working with youth groups, hospitals and radio stations in South Africa. You can follow my trip HERE
. I will be putting up some pictures, and blogging about the journey as I go along. You can see and hear some of the stories by following the Vimeo link, and Soundcloud too.
I'm very excited to be going, and I hope you will enjoy following my journey on the site. I'm working with CRF because I've always believed in the importance of curiosity, and I grew in a home that was passionate about ' Radio ', as a window to the world outside. In my day job as a musician, I've always loved travelling, meeting people, and making connections with them about all our lives. CRF does all of this this brilliantly, through its radio and journalism training. CRF informs and enlightens everyone's lives - the reporter, interviewee, and the listener, wherever they may be. I'll also be checking out some music too, so keep an eye on the site! "
found this while looking for something else.. it is now my screen saver
The most recent interview by children in South Africa, with a very cool lieutenant from the Manenburg police - check out what he has to say at the end about ' success '
Let's hope, like he says, that this does promote peace after such a long time.
Please sign an urgent action calling on restraint by China who have imposed the most horrendous crackdowns against monks at Kirti monastery and the Tibetan people in Ngaba town with the installation of hundreds of Paramilitary Armed Police, the closure of roads and the cutting off all communications to the outside world.

try and get your head around it.
IT CUTS BOTH WAYS .... THE ALTERNATIVES. This is a film exposing the alternatives to the government's austerity measures; it's about the positive; it's about revealing the many options we actually have at a time when we're being told there are no alternatives

Those big drag nets that trawlers drop to the bottom of the ocean and decimate all life in their path?
And use radar while local fishermen loose their livelihoods? Just to fill empty shelves in Supermarkets? This lot are using lottery money internationally to stop all that.
Beautiful, and a little disturbing.
"is this what we're doing now?" - quick! Watch all episodes on iPlayer (for the next few days) if you're in the UK. Best british comedy in ages, so well played and written. Right up there with Curb Your Enthusiasm!

Found this extraordinary shop in Brighton last week. It's well worth a visit...
“The relationship between photographers and police could worsen next month when new laws are introduced that allow for the arrest - and imprisonment - of anyone who takes pictures of officers ‘likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’.”
maybe it's about time the likes of Apple took responsibility for the manufacture of their products, as they're supposed to be so cutting edge.
As we're lifelong contributors to 'anthrophony' we're pretty culpable....but still, fascinating studies.

As they say, we don't live in the Information Age, or even the Oil Age. We all have to eat. We live in the Agriculture Age.
Download books on to your Blackberry instead of using it to send email, 'browse' the 'web' or any of the other tedious business-related 'apps'. It'll still look like you're really really busy.
This is great if you should be doing something boring for someone else.
Man, I couldn't even read this, it looked so scary. But maybe you can? Maybe it has a happy ending?
Fascinating, horrifying, beautiful photography.
