ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY
Osaka Chuo Taikukan is an indoor sporting arena located in Minato-ku, Osaka, Japan. The venue is located underneath a park, with natural skylights, ground insulation, and rainwater collection as part of the energy savings plan of the venue. For more detailed information regarding the green architecture of the Osaka Municipal Gymnasium, please visit: http://www.hku.hk/mech/sbe/case_study/case/jap/Osaka_Gym/index.html
Parking:
The venue is across from the Asashiobashi station on the Chuo Line. Very, very few audience members drive to the Osaka Chuo Taikukan.
Energy:
In addition to the energy advantages of the venue's green architecture, Hostess has purchased renewable green energy tariffs for the entire Japanese tour.
Recycling:
The venue has a comprehensive backstage recycling program including paper, plastic bottles, plastic wrap, glass, aluminium, steel, and food waste.
Catering:
Caterers provided washable plates, cutlery, cups for all meals. Reusable Papyrustick chopsticks made from 50% or more post-recycled paper content were also provided. As with almost all of our shows, water coolers were provided for use with our refillable water bottles. Food waste was separated along with recyclables for offsite waste processing.
Concessions:
Though we were led to believe that there would be recycling for the audience area, we were later informed that the only audience area sorting was combustible and non-combustible. We apologise for not catching this oversight day of show.
Other green initiatives/issues:
Friends of the Earth Japan will be at each of the Japanese shows in support of the Make the Rule Campaign. For more information or to sign the petition, please visit http://www.foejapan.org/
