ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY
The Hurricane Festival is located in Scheessel, approximately 61 km / 38 miles from Bremen and 75 km / 47 miles from Hamburg.
Parking:
Because of the relatively remote location of the festival, there were only two transport options. One was to take the Deutsch Bahn to Scheessel and walk approximately 1500m to the festival. The other was to drive / car share with all of one's camping gear, which most appeared to do. The promoters of the festival encouraged people to car share.
Energy:
Today was the second day charging up our big battery via festival generators. It will be used for the first time in Victoria Park.
Recycling:
Bottle collection was the major recycling priority for the festival due to the deposit system throughout Germany. The promoters did not provide any opportunities for recycling other types of waste.
Catering:
Both artist and crew catering used washable plates and cutlery for all their meals. Our backstage scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds, and biodegradable cups were collected for composting.
Concessions:
The festival partnered with the Viva con Aqua campaign to donate reusable cup deposits towards the building of wells in Cambodia. All concessions cups were reusable with a 1€ deposit and, ultimately, recyclable.
Other green initiatives/issues:
The festival setup a garbage refund system where people received back the 5€ deposit with their ticket price when they returned filled garbage bags.
Many thanks to Hartmut Ender, Jäki Hildisch, and everyone with FKP Scorpio and MCT.
