ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY

Victoria Park is located in Tower Hamlets, in the east end of London. The park is surrounded by tube, overground train, and bus stops.

Parking:

There are no parking spaces at all in the immediate vicinity of Victoria Park. The secure bike park was used by approximately 50 bicycles per night, plus others parked in the surrounding are.

Energy:

The Victoria Park was the first day solely running our big battery to power the stage lights for both shows. The only power issues we had were with the waste oil biodiesel generators running the stage audio, which had started to congeal with the dropping temperatures.

Recycling:

The promoter worked out a program with the municipal trash collection service to setup glass, plastic, paper, plastic, and organic recycling for the backstage area. There was plastic recycling in the audience area and all audience waste was later sorted for recyclables.

Catering:

Caterers provided washable plates, cutlery, and biodegradable cups for all meals. Food scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds, and biodegradable cups were collected for deposit in the organic recycling bins.

Concessions:

The festival implemented a cup deposit system for their paper cups. Cups collected by audience members could be returned in exchange for money towards concessions.

Other green initiatives/issues:

The venue is a temporary structure on a Greenfield site. Much care is taken to convert the field back to its original state after the show is completed.

A very many thanks to Andy Redhead, Roy Morley, Graham Lambert and everyone at SJM Concerts.
