ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY
Roskilde is located 36 km / 22 miles from Copenhagen. The festival is accessable via public transport by train to Roskilde then a special shuttle bus to the festival site.
Parking:
Audience transporation to the festival is mixed between car and public transport. Those driving cars were encouraged to car share. There was limited special parking for those riding motorcycles or bicycles.
Energy:
Today was a big battery charge day via the grid (mains) power at the venue. Grid power was also used for all stage electricity.
Recycling:
All venue waste is ultimately sorted into following: glass, paper, cardboard, iron, small- and big flammable material, biological waste, deep-fry fat, ashes, batteries, and plastic. This waste sorting is carried out in all internal parts of Roskilde Festival, concession companies, food-sales according to the type of waste present. Backstage we recycled paper, plastic, and aluminium.
Catering:
Caterers provided washable plates and cutlery for all meals. Water coolers were provided for use with our refillable water bottles. All dairy products, coffee, tea, wine, fruits and vegetables used and/or sold on the festival were organic / non-GMO. Coffee, tea, wine, juice, sugar, drinking chocolate and chocolate bars were certified fair-trade.
Other green initiatives/issues:
The festival does not allow glass, plastic, or cans to be brought in by the audience. All beverages were served in cups or carton packaging, which were sold with a deposit to encourage people to reuse their cups. Recycled, eco-labelled paper was used for posters, programme, and toilet paper.
Many thanks to Fod Barfod and everyone at the Roskilde Festival.
