More information:

Rock Werchter is a four-day festival in Werchter, Belgium running from Thu 3-Sun 6 July. Radiohead will be headlining the Saturday night. W.A.S.T.E. will be selling a 1-day ticket for the Saturday 5 July, as well as a 4-day ticket and another ticket that allows you to camp.

Your ticket price includes access to the festival ground, as well as one outward and one homeward journey by train from every Belgian NMBS rail station (excluding Thalys and Eurostar) to Leuven, and one outward and one homeward journey with a De Lijn festival bus from Leuven to Werchter. People from the Netherlands (and all other visitors travelling from abroad) may use their Rock Werchter ticket to travel free of charge from the first Belgian train station. It is still necessary to buy a ticket to travel to and from this first Belgian train station. At De Lijn, festival tickets are valid only on special festival buses from/to Leuven Station to/from Werchter - not on other lines. This offer is valid from Thursday morning 3 July through Monday 7 July. See the SNCB website for more details.

A camping ticket needs to be purchased in order to stay at one of the festival’s camping facilities. Camp sites will be open from Thursday 3 July till Monday 7 July in the afternoon. Please bear in mind that Werchter’s camping facilities will not be open on Wednesday evening. There is no way for visitors to pitch their tents that evening!

If you must take your car, you will need to park at one of the parking sites in Werchter (which will cost extra).

ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY

Werchter is located 39 km / 24 miles from downtown Brussels. The price of the concert ticket includes train transport to and from the festival.

Parking:

Car park spots were limited to off site pay spots in Werchter. The venue estimates that around 55% percent of the audience drives to the festival. There was a large bike park which was quite heavily used.

Energy:

Today was a big battery day for lights. The remaining stage power was drawn from generators.

Recycling:

The Werchter festival has their own environmental management plan to green their festival. We were able to recycle paper, plastic, aluminium, and organic backstage.

Catering:

Caterers provided washable plates, cutlery, and biodegradable cups for all meals. As with almost all of our shows, water coolers were provided for use with our refillable water bottles. Venue catering uses at least 75% locally grown food.

Concessions:

The festival implements a cup return policy where fans can return 20 empty cups for a free drink. The cups are then compressed and recycled into park benches.

Other green initiatives/issues:

The festival also used environmentally friendly soaps, energy efficient light bulbs, and recycled paper toilet paper. All backstage furnishings are owned by the festival and reused each year.

Many thanks to Sarah Schueremans, Walter Haese and everyone at the Werchter Festival.
